THINK

Gather Information:
  • Review instances where team members have demonstrated Multiplier vs. Diminisher behaviors

  • Look for examples where they’ve successfully empowered others and created opportunities for growth

  • Identify situations where they might be accidentally diminishing others

Analyze Current Performance:
  • Evaluate how effectively your team members are applying the five disciplines of a Multiplier

  • Assess their ability to create space for others to contribute and lead

  • Observe how they balance providing direction with allowing ownership and accountability

Develop a Coaching Plan:
  • Identify specific opportunities where each team member could shift from Diminisher to Multiplier behaviors

  • Create strategies to help them develop their skills in each of the five disciplines

  • Plan how to address any accidental diminishing tendencies you’ve observed

ACT

Listen for Deeper Understanding:
  • Encourage team members to share their experiences in trying to become more of a Multiplier

  • Explore their challenges in giving up control and trusting their team’s capabilities

Ask Questions:
  • Ask them to provide examples of when they successfully multiplied others’ intelligence and capabilities

  • Discuss situations where they found it difficult to resist solving problems themselves

  • Explore how they’re implementing the five disciplines of a Multiplier in their daily work

Ask How You Can Provide Additional Support:
  • Determine what additional resources or guidance each team member needs to develop as a Multiplier

  • Identify specific situations where they’d like support in applying Multiplier practices

REFLECT

Get the Other Person’s Perspective:
  • Have team members share their insights about the impact of Multiplier practices on their team

  • Discuss their observations about how their leadership style affects team performance and engagement

Provide Feedback:
  • Offer specific feedback on their progress in becoming a Multiplier

  • Highlight successful instances of empowering others and discuss areas where they could multiply more effectively

  • Share observations about the impact their leadership style has on team performance

Align on Next Steps (Call to Action):
  • Set specific goals around developing each of the five disciplines of a Multiplier

  • In future coaching sessions, review their progress in shifting from Diminisher to Multiplier behaviors

  • Establish regular check-ins to discuss the impact of their new leadership approaches on team performance and engagement

  • Continue to reinforce Multiplier practices through ongoing coaching and feedback
